SF Zoo Tickets

A series of four tickets created for the San Francisco Zoo.

Objective:

Create assets depicting four different species of animals in unique ways that showcased each animal’s qualities.

Process:

I began by picking four animals to illustrate, focusing on animals that are native to rainforests because it’s my favorite habitat. I thoroughly researched each animal to accurately get a sense of its personality and the qualities that make it unique. This included studying the way they moved and how they acted to ensure that I created a realistic representation.

I illustrated these characteristics by creating detailed sketches of how each animal would be seen in the wild. After studying and sketching, I choose four of the sketches that I thought best embodied each animal’s personalities.

Next, I created hi-fidelity renderings of the animals, making constant iterations to ensure that the four animals looked visually unified. I then created digital renderings, making more iterations to perfect the sizing and style of each image.

After finalizing each image, I brainstormed and sketched different ways that they could be showcased. Drawing on my experience as a volunteer at the San Francisco Zoo, I thought creating a series of tickets would be a great way to present these designs. I created a series of colorful tickets that could be used at the SF Zoo.

I wanted to move away from the standard brown and tan zoo tickets and get people excited about entering the park. The vibrant colors that I picked were inspired by the colorful rainforests where these animals live, and the tickets use these colors to represent each animal’s uniqueness and bold qualities. Tickets are mementos that people often collect to remember experiences, and I wanted to create something worth saving. The vibrant colors and designs also represent each animal’s unique and bold qualities.
